Eco Printing - Naomi Swyers

What is Eco Printing? In short; Eco Printing creates (more or less perfect) prints of leaves, using the natural pigments, tannins and acids present in leaves, by combining them with mordants, moisture and heat on fabric. The long version includes trained knowledge of plants, mordents and a good bit of science.

BASIC STEPS OF ECO PRINTING ON FABRIC:

  1. Mordant the Fabric. (Soak in a liquid that helps the color adhere to the fabric)

  2. Soak the Plant Materials, in rust, copper or other various solutions.

  3. Place the Leaves and Flowers the fabric and fold it over or cover with a second piece of fabric

  4. Tightly roll the folded fabric onto a PVC pipe or heavy stick

  5. Steam or simmer the bundle

Then unroll the beauty.
