Susannah’s business is named after her grandmother, ZouZou which is short for Missouri.

Years ago, when Susannah was clearing out ZouZou's house, the trip to her basement yielded many items that anyone who had been through the Great Depression would hold on to, aluminum pie plates, jars, cans, and terracotta flower pots. She took pots, painted a few and gave them as gifts. People began to pay her to paint things, and thus, ZouZou’s Basement was born.

She lives in Richmond, Virginia. When she stops painting, she spends countless hours watching her two boys play basketball and walking her perfect golden retriever, Rufus.
